Title : Matching Markets with Adverse Selection
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper considers a market with adverse selection in the spirit of Rothschild and Stiglitz [20]. The major departure from existing approaches is that we model a decentralized market that is open-ended and constantly refilled by new participants, e.g., by new workers and firms in the case of a labor market. The major novelty of this approach is that the distribution of types in the market becomes an endogenous variable, which is jointly determined with equilibrium contracts. As frictions become small, we show that the least-cost separating contracts are always supported as an equilibrium outcome, regardless of the distribution of types among entrants. Moreover, we derive conditions under which this outcome is also unique.

Markets with Simultaneous Signaling and Screening
We model markets with adverse selection as matching markets. In a given match the informed or the uniformed party is chosen to make a take-it-or-leave-it proposal. This allows to account for the simultaneous presence of signaling and screening. Moreover, the possibility to dissolve matches unsuccessfully allows to endogenize the distribution of types in the market. It will be shown that this ap...

We study the Akerlofian adverse selection problem in a dynamic matching model where the competitive situation varies across different meetings. The 'lemons principle' is shown to limit the high quality sales within a wider range of quality distributions than in the Walrasian benchmark. High quality goods can nevertheless be traded, albeit less frequently than the low quality goods. For certain ...

Do Walrasian markets function orderly in the presence of adverse selection? In particular, Is their outcome efficient when exclusive contracts are enforceable? This paper addresses these questions in the context of a Rothschild and Stiglitz insurance economy. We identify an externality associated with the presence of adverse selection as a special form of consumption externality. Consequently, ...
